Ridiculously Simple Shortcuts to Rest

1. Instead of television, motivate yourself to read a book.

It’s so [so] easy to sit down and turn on the tv. For a change of pace, and a much more mentally engaging activity, give up your tv time for a book. Books are a beautiful way to distract your mind and soak into a visual story. Keep books nestled on your coffee table and nightstand.

2. Instead of rushing to bed, find a night time routine.

Do you ever catch yourself rushing to bed, mindlessly hustling through your nighttime routine? Instead, try to find an extra five minutes for self care and take the extra step to do something rejuvenating. This doesn’t have to be daily, but resting into this weekly routine can help you slow you down on nights you really need to.

3. Instead of scrolling your phone, make time for creativity.

Phones are an easy distraction after a long day—they are often used to transition between activities or as a way to do something mindless. But do you truly feel rested after sessions of screen time? Instead, fill some of this time with creativity. Maybe that means journaling a few lines about your day or taking a moment to paint.

4. Instead of dinner alone, start a conversation.

Meal time should be centered around people. Taking time in the evening to share cooking creations with others can be an integral part of your day. Use it as a chance to unwind, laugh, and share new ideas.

To help you find rest, fill your life with intentional things that add value and bring you an emotional response. How do you plan on finding rest this week?
